Moon Juice has been a beloved brand for me since, god, 2016? My sister and I would go to the Echo Park Craft Fair and ask our mom if she could cover the entry fee, and I would buy some horrific tasting “dust” from them that promised to be good to my mind and body. I’ve been a health freak, emphasis on freak, on and off during my life and I think now it’s just become an undertone of who I am.
Moon Juice Silverlake was near and dear to me because I didn’t have to go to Melrose, because who actually wants to go to Melrose if you’re not 18, a tourist, or an influencer who moved to la? I liked their ten dollar bottled juices and I liked getting an iced almond milk sex dust latte with raw vanilla, rose water and honey. It was a $7-$8 dollar order but that seems to be what everyone is charging these days. I visited Moon Juice the day Joe Biden was elected. People were honking on Sunset, holding up signs, cheering. It was like a parade.
I also adore Amanda Chantal Bacon no matter what anyone says. I’ve read her Into The Gloss article multiple times. I also miss being seventeen and reading Into The Gloss. I think at that time “adulthood” and my twenties seemed so distant, but it held a near-tangible glamour and a promise of freedom and excitement. I really love this one quote in her interview:
You can have one green juice a day and keep drinking caffeine, keep smoking cigarettes, keep eating hamburgers, but that one juice will feel so good in your body that eventually you’ll be like, ‘ Mm, I kind of feel like two green juices a day.
You know what? If I could afford two green juices a day, I would drink them. Since my nearest beloved Moon Juice has closed down, I usually go to Kreation. I like Marjan’s Favorite and Super Sexy Celery. Greens 2 is also pretty good? I’ve had a juice from Erewhon as well and though it was decent I feel like everything there is priced 10-40% more than it needs to be. Sometimes that’s what you need to take the edge off though.
